Saturday, June 1st is the National Day of Civic Hacking. The day will bring together local government leaders and staff, local organizations, businesses, visitors, and community members and is focused on fun and civic innovation. There will be prototyping, a mini-maker faire, talks, discussions, music, and food.
…And The Hive is part of it! The proposed project is a line graph generated in physical space by blowers, ping pongs, servos and a programmable controller – all hooked to Hadoop.
The apparatus will be able to show two lines of data for comparison purposes. One will be generated from green ping pong balls, and the other from red. In this way various trend scenarios can be compared to each other.
The data for the two trend lines can be generated from data from the city of Palo Alto and processed either on a laptop, and/or sent to a compute grid (hadoop) to crunch the numbers.
Come visit our booth on June 1st from 11am to 6pm downtown Palo Alto! Exact location will be posted here very soon.
