The Hive India is anchored by the Patni family who are pioneers in the field of information technology in India. The Patnis were early entrants in this space in the mid-70s and built a global IT outsourcing business over a period of 4 decades. The company, Patni Computer Systems was recently sold at a transaction value of almost $1.5 billion. Subsequently, Amit and Arihant Patni have been working to identify the next wave of innovation in the technology space. As a first effort, they have co-founded a venture fund in the internet space in India called Nirvana. The Hive is a vehicle to fund and launch innovation in the area of data analytics.
The Hive is joining forces with entrepreneurs and start-ups that are seeking capital, qualified guidance and high-level mentorship. Our goal is to function as equity partners rather than financial investors and participate significantly in the evolution of the enterprise.

The Hive India is currently operational in Mumbai and aims to appoint a team of like-minded Big Data enthusiasts and build office infrastructure in Bangalore in the near future.

A joint study by NASSCOM and CRISIL Global Research & Analytics estimates that the Indian Big Data industry will grow from USD 200 million in 2012 to USD 1 billion in 2015 at a CAGR in excess of 83 percent. The Hive India is interested in functional areas as well as verticals that lend themselves to innovative approaches and disruption by Big Data.
